Gratitude

"The ground on which the flower of insight grows is the human soul. We are born into a world of suffering and pain, of joy and sorrow, of intentions, actions and reactions. As children, we naturally love the world. It is a vast place to be explored and discovered. We go eagerly into life, or timidly, or fearfully, according to our temperament, upbringing, culture and actions.

The whole world is our cradle, school, challenge, joy and, eventually, our grave. There is nothing we meet that does not hold something essential for our karma. That we overlook some things as inessential is our mistake.

Gratitude teaches us not to pass anything by, even if painful, negative or terrifying. It is easy to be grateful for the good, the true and the beautiful. But it is a sobering truth that the pain of life is more formative than the happiness. Contentment, happiness, joy and love of live are certainly things to be grateful for, but greatest deed of love involves learning to be grateful for all that life brings. This is the key that opens the door to deep insight and truth."
