Celebrações de Novembro

"The Saints of Autmn

When autumn announces itself with nature's warmly brilliant colors, and veils of mist soften the sharp contours of the world, when daylight becomes shorter and also dimmer, it means that people, too, are to turn away from the glaring, loud aspects of the outer world" (Pressel, 1993).

E assim, chegam-nos as brilhantes e acolhedoras celebrações do mês de Novembro, que nos preparam para o recolher interior do Inverno que se avizinha.

1 - Dia de Todos os Santos (Dia de Pão por Deus)
2 - Dia de Finados (Dia de Los Muertos)
11 - Dia de S. Martinho, Festa das Lanternas

Encontrei estas palavras que descrevem as celebrações para a época do Samhain.

"The festival is threefold; it includes Hallo´s Eve, All Saints Day and All Souls Day. The days run consecutively on October 31, November 1 and November 2.

The roots of Halloween come from the Celtic people. It was an opportunity to contemplate and honor the sun in the Druidic religion. As they were antecipating the coming darkness, they used fire (light) to appease mischievous spirits wich, they believed, appeared at this time. We also need to remember that these people were more directly connected in everyday life with the earth and stars, birth and death.

(..) The next day, November 1, is All Saints Day. This day was considered to be a portal where one could really draw inwardly into the self. All things of Hallow's Eve were gone — the air was peaceful, almost an attitude of prayer existed. People then had the opportunity to honor and remember the saintly ones. All the saints, being of a giving nature, were helpful to humanity.

(..) Finally, on November 2, All Souls Day, there was an opportunity for remembering dead relatives and friends. People would pray to them and ask for their blessings. It was costumary to keep the kitchen war and leave food on the table overnight for visiting spirits. This brought in the tradition of soul cakes."
